If you got the poison I got the remedy.

Ouchie

With the summer coming up, and the sun already making us ginger kids with no souls go into a tizzy when we can feel our skin baking in the suns mighty heat deathly glow. As someone who has been burnt, quite a few  times in my past ( my mom never informed me really about how deadly the sun can be to my precious skin and didnt contest when for my first bikini I chose a black one! Thanks mom!) I know a thing or two about making yourself feel better after being badly burnt. This however wont make your sunburn go away, this is only to make yourself feel better and hopefully get some sleep.

This might look a little odd, and no were not doing any science projects of making volcanoes, but you can still see a little scientific stuff going on. The first step is to make a luke warm bath, not to hot because your skin is already burnt, but not to cold, and put throw in some baking soda and vinegar. (if you watch closely you can see them interacting with each other in the water) Soak in the bath for 15 mins, on each side, or all parts that are sunburnt. Do not use any soap, most soaps have stuff in them that dry your skin out even more which defeats the purpose of this bath. The reason I bathe in vinegar and baking soda is that it takes out the sting of the sunburn.
Soaking my cares away, I mean the sting away.

If you have blisters I would advise to pop the blisters with a STERILE needle and let them drain, keeping the skin on it, not peeling it off. I recommend doing this after the bath so the bath doesn't get into the area and your skin will hurt less after the bath.

After the bath, pat yourself dry, try not to rub, I always have to remind myself because I dry off any which way just to not get cold after bathing. Next I take some allergy medication (this is incase you are allergic to the sun or swell) and some ibuprofen ( this is also an anti inflamatory which will help if you start to swell and well as a pain reliever. I then definetely remember to take my multivitamin, because I feel like the sun took out some of my vitamins, and hey, it cant hurt. Lastly make sure you drink a lot of water, you can become really dehydrated, as well as your skin being dehydrated now that it is burnt.

I dont even understand how only this part got burnt?!

The next process is ALOE VERA AND LOTS OF IT! Apply it whenever you want, keep it in the fridge so its cold for you to put on your skin, if you have an aloe vera plant, even better, cut off a leaf, slice it open, and rub directly onto your skin.

Make sure you get plenty of rest, and drink water, and keep your skin hydrated.

I know this might be gross, but keep some anti diarrhea medicine around. Sometimes I get some issues with that when I get burnt.

One more thing, If your face is really badly burnt, instead of submerging it into the bath for 15 mins, make a baking soda paste with just baking soda and water, and put it on your skin, leave on for 3-5 mins depending on how burnt you are. I would not leave it on longer because baking soda can drastically dry out your face, causing it to be even worse while it burnt. This part also kind of aches/hurts so be careful.

I hope this helped, I ALWAYS do this every time I get burnt and the next day, my skin might be a little tender but it makes a world of difference.

If you have any other advice or tips for sunburns, please leave them in the comments~!

desperate 60's housewife

Today was the first day I could/wanted to really get dressed. I've had a cold, sunburn, and aunt Flo came to visit! So my bed has been my safe haven/restaurant/hospital and everything else you can think of. Spring has definitely sprung in the Midwest, its muggy, hot, and raining! Ill leave this short, because I'm still feeling a little under the weather, but this is dress is so comfy that even when I feel horrible, its really nice!

Relay for life

This weekend I had the pleasure of walking for Relay for Life. Being incredibly busy I forgot about it until only two days before the event. Since my mother unlikely death with cancer, I try to get involved twice a year, in the fall I get sponsors to for Frocktober, and in the spring, I walk in relay for life.

If you don't know what it is, in a nutshell, you basically sign up as one person, or form a team, and it costs ten dollars per person. Then you ask people to donate or sponsor you to do it. The night of the event you walk at whatever event you sign up for. There are usually great activities and very family oriented. A bunch of tents full of vendors trying to raise money themselves for cancer set up on the side. After opening ceremony, there is a survivors lap, and then a caregivers lap. Then everyone gets to walk, they have different things going on throughout the night, and there is a lot of food and fun. I got to meet several survivors and its nice to talk about my mom and just talk to them about what they went through, I find it very therapeutic.

So I had two days to try to earn as much money as I could, luckily I have some amazing friends and family who donated over 200 dollars in 24 hours, and next year I plan on doing even more and won't forget about it! It was nice that my team even got a special shout out for raising so much money in a little amount of time. It just feels good to be able to help give back and if it saves one life, I am happy. It will always be bitter sweet, but sometimes you just have to swallow your pride and do what is best.

If you're looking to get involved, go to relayforlife.com  and look for an event in your area, around here, there are several that go into June so its not to late!

So happy to be done, while it was a fun night, and there were a ton of things to do, by the end of the night, my feet were killing me!

Fall into spring

It has been feeling like fall around here, so I wore an outfit that I didn't get a chance to wear a lot of this fall, but it is super comfy! I am all about being super comfy while being girly. A tomboy a heart, and it will never change. The only problem with spring doing the whole mind *bleep* is that one day it feels like fall, and the next I get a sunburn. Pale girl problems.
I just wore this casually around the house for those days you have to get out of pajamas and to play catch with my kid in the back yard. I hope everyone had a good weekend, I know its T
